The justice
system should pursue cases not only to bring about justice, but to also
render decisions with the ultimate effect of benefiting all Texas
citizens. Again, in this case the justice system totally failed Texas.
While no one can condone Mrs. Harris’ acts that July evening, the
court’s decision failed us all. In this instance, a citizen with no
prior offenses who had never broken the law and whose life had been
turned on end by her spouse’s unrepentant infidelity, has had her life
and her family further and completely torn apart by a misguided jury.

The tragic death of David
Harris and the events that led up to that July 2002 evening have saddened
and burdened us all. So much promise and good was put at risk and ultimately
lost by the events that led up to that sad night. We all had faith, however,
that the Texas justice system would sift through the headlines and render a
decision that upheld all of the interests of the state and its citizenry,
providing justice for all involved. Sadly the system has horribly failed its
mandate to the citizens of Texas.

The defense fund is in place to help Clara
with her appeal. Due to the civil suit filed by Lindsey’s mom all of Clara’s
assets are frozen thus leaving her without funds to defend herself.
Additionally, the cost of the criminal trial has depleted her retirement
account and all other available funds. |
